August was dominated by anticipation: more than 220 rangers from 35 countries have registered for our 6th European Ranger Congress in Romania in October! At the same time, we look back on the fatal bear attack on a tourist this summer in the congress region – and ask how rangers can contribute even more to ensuring that such preventable accidents never happen again by enforcing the feeding ban.

We also invite nominations for our ERF Board, which will be newly elected at the congress, and are looking at a ranger project – also purely voluntary – to raise awareness of fragile biodiversity, which accompanies hikers from hut to hut. We honour all our members who had the difficult task of fighting the numerous forest fires this season. For some, this tragically ended in death. And we are delighted about our growing community of members, but also about our loyal supporters!
