Our ranger video number 5 takes you to the Outer Western Carpathians, where ranger and natural landscaper Jana Javorská works to protect the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. Located in the Czech Republic, right at the border to Slovakia, it is characterised by a high biological and scenic diversity.
Preserving this unique natural environment is also a real balancing act in her ranger area: between nature conservation, human activities such as tourism and local recreation and urbanisation that is putting protected areas increasingly under pressure across Europe.
Making the voice of nature heard among all these interests: That’s what we need rangers for. And far more than are currently out there protecting biodiversity and ecosystems. We need more than 1.5 million more rangers on the ground to implement the global target of 30×30, i.e. 30 per cent of the land and sea area to be protected by 2030!
